Yale 2021 Life Science Career Fair

The Yale Student Business Society is excited to announce the 2021 Life Science Career Fair that will be held virtually on April 28th-29th! We welcome all graduate students, professional students, post-docs, undergraduates, and alumni interested in the life sciences to participate in networking and career exploration opportunities provided at this event. The Life Science Career Fair will feature industry-leading companies in the fields of Biotech, Pharmaceutical, Consulting, Venture Capital, and other Non-academic Careers, providing trainees with opportunities to learn about the diverse career paths available in the life sciences. 

Dr. Craig Crews (John C. Malone Professor of MCDB, Founder of Proteolics, Arvinas, and Halda Therapeutics) will be talking about the transition from academia to industry in a fireside address.Interactive Q&A panel events led by industry professionals and Yale alumni will allow for thoughtful discussions on key topics in their respective fields. Additionally, participants will be able to connect with professionals and alumni in these fields through both one-on-one networking opportunities and booths with company representatives.

Reaching the Peak: A Science & Technology Career Summit

Registration is now open for Reaching the Peak: A Science & Technology Career Summit, Research!America’s summit for early career researchers, on June 30, 2021 from 11-6 p.m. ET.

During this one-day virtual event, early career researchers will have the opportunity to explore an array of career paths, network with fellow researchers, participate in professional development workshops, and engage in meaningful discussions around issues critical to the success of the R&D ecosystem. 

Sample workshops and topics the Summit will explore: 

  • Resume and CV Development 
  • Effective Science Communication 
  • Science Policy and Advocacy
  • Fostering Successful Mentorships

Early career researchers in biomedical, public health, or other health-related disciplines are invited to attend, including graduate students in Master’s, PhD, MD, PharmD, or similar degree programs, recent graduates, Postdocs/Fellows, and early-career employees.

Register for the Summit!

As a special component of the Summit, applications are now being accepted to participate in Research!America’s second annual Flash Talks Competition. In this competition, early career researchers will test their science communication skills by providing a short, 3-minute presentation of their biomedical or health-related research, including its significance and broader context to a general audience. Each Flash Talk will be evaluated by a panel of judges on how effectively and concisely the research was communicated.

The preliminary round of the competition will take place on June 30, 2021 during Research!America’s Early Career Summit, with the final round occurring during the 2021 National Health Research Forum held September 13-15, 2021.

AstraZeneca’s Antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) Portfolio team is expanding, and we have immediate openings for scientists at all levels who have a passion for oncology research and would like to participate in the pre-clinical development of potential therapies for the treatment of cancer!  If you know of anyone who might be a good match for the positions below (it might be you!), please share the news.  I encourage all interested scientists to apply using the links below!

Scientist:

Looking for talented and enthusiastic scientists for this lab-based role, to conduct in vitro and ex vivo assays to support our ADC programs.  Scientists who enjoy working in a collaborative, team-focused environment, with expertise in cell based assays, a passion for oncology research, and a desire for continued learning will be perfect for this role.  Typical education level is MS.

Sr Scientist:

Call for Novartis Innovation Fellows – Application Open

The Novartis Innovation Postdoctoral Fellowship offers aspiring drug hunters a unique opportunity to join our teams at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), the innovation engine of Novartis. Mentored by experienced NIBR scientists, Innovation Fellows will gain first-hand experience in the design and development of breakthrough therapies and innovative technologies. We are looking for Innovation Fellows who will harness their scientific creativity and natural curiosity to help bring transformative treatments to patients.

Program highlights

  • Program duration: 2-3 years
  • Mentorship & access to technology: Innovation Fellows will drive a multi-year research project under the mentorship of distinguished NIBR scientists and have access to NIBR state-of-the-art technology platforms to achieve their research goals 
  • Curriculum: at the start of their Fellowship, Innovation Fellows will attend a comprehensive training series (boot camp), including dedicated courses covering the fundamentals of drug discovery and development as well as a communication skill workshop
  • Short-term rotations: Innovation Fellows will participate in a tailored rotation schedule in both scientific and business-related disciplines to broaden their exposure and skillset 
  • Fireside chats with local leading scientists and entrepreneurs 
  • Community: Innovation Fellows will join our vibrant postdoctoral community for dedicated events, including the monthly postdoctoral seminars and our annual Research Day Symposium 

Who are the Innovation Fellows?

  • Early-career scientists (MD and/or PhD), with terminal degree received within the last 3 years (students graduating in the next 5 months are eligible to apply)
  • Dedicated to translating scientific discoveries into medicines that improve human health 
  • All scientific and technical disciplines welcome (biology, chemical biology, chemistry, computational and data sciences, and more)
  • Strong publication record or other scientific achievements (i.e. awards, patents) 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and boundless curiosity

  • To apply for the Innovation Fellowship at either our Basel (CH) or Cambridge, MA (US) site, please use this link: https://nibr-bei.smapply.io/ and select the relevant program. This on-line application process requires uploading a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and cover letter in a pdf file format. In the cover letter, please include a potential area of unmet medical need where you believe you could make an impact.
  • We will accept applications from March 1 to April 14, 2021 for our Cambridge, MA site and from March 1 to April 29, 2021 for our Basel site.
  • Applicants will receive an automated email notification that their application has been received. All applications will be evaluated by a review team comprised of NIBR discipline experts. Candidates selected as finalists will be invited for an all-day virtual interview in May/June 2021. New Innovation Fellows will be expected to start in September 2021.
