The Institute for Regenerative Medicine will host a virtual edition of our annual retreat on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 from 1 PM to 5 PM. This year, we plan to focus on collaborations: how have IRM researchers recently partnered on exciting projects and how can we foster new team science efforts. We hope to share examples of team-ups across disciplines, approaches, and the basic/clinical gap. Our goal is to have an afternoon of great discussion to help you think about your own research and what is possible in the coming years. Please email Chris Yarosh (yaroshc@pennmedicine.upenn.edu) with any questions.
Are you interested in being part of a team that helps translate research in a lab to biotechnology that can impact patients? Do you want to learn about how to create a biotech startup with exclusive access to talks and personal mentorship from investors, founders, and other leaders in biotech?
Penn Bio Launch (PBL), (http://www.bio-launch.com/) beginning in Spring 2021, will create Penn’s first community for biotech entrepreneurship. Our educational program will match high impact biotechnologies from Penn with multidisciplinary venture teams composed of Penn PhD, MD, MBA, and Masters students interested in biotech entrepreneurship. These newly formed teams then attend a 10-week workshop series on business strategy, development, and execution taught by biotech venture capitalists, attorneys, and founders.
We are now recruiting Biotech Fellows for our venture exploration teams. Each venture team will consist of a Tech Lead(who will bring in a specific biotechnology that their lab is working on) and 4-5 Biotech Fellows (multi-disciplinary team members who may or may not have venture capital/entrepreneurial experiences and are interested in learning/developing a venture based off the piece of technology). Please apply via the link below. Admissions will occur on a rolling basis until February 1st.
If you’re interested in learning more about PBL’s mission, what it offers, and how you can get involved, please join our first fellow info session/coffee chat on January 26 @7-8PM EST. Please register using the link below to receive the Zoom link. If you can’t make it on the 26th, there will be another info session on January 28th@7-8 PM EST.

Flagship Pioneering is recruiting for their 2021 Fellows Program (description here). It’s a 12 week paid fellowship sponsored over the summer at Flagship’s offices in Cambridge, conditions permitting. Last year the program transitioned into a remote experience with great success. The fellowship is designed to be a unique opportunity to be exposed to our unique approach to basic science, innovation, and venture creation and learn from our talented team to apply this approach first-hand. Who knows, you could come up with the next Moderna!
