Fellowship Abroad for PhD Graduates — Science Corps

January 6, 2021 by Rebecca Lopez

Are you a recent or soon-to-be PhD graduate? Would you like to spend up to six months making a difference by developing and teaching science curriculum abroad?

Science Corps offers fully paid internships to upcoming and recent PhD graduates (up to four years after graduation) to help build science capacity at one of our host locations – a town on the island of Bohol in the Philippines, a village up in the Indian Himalayas, and in Tangier, Morocco. We are also currently developing new site partnerships, and are open to a fellow working on site development.

Fellows travel to partner institutions to develop science curriculum, teach in secondary school classrooms, train teachers, and build community-based research projects. In addition to building science capacity at these host locations, we also aim to offer fellows a life-changing experience. They are given the opportunity to spend time in beautiful locations, immerse themselves in different cultures, and learn from their host educators, all while making positive contributions to these communities. Should travel continue to be restricted, fellows will have the opportunity to visit the host site they work with once it is safe to do so.

We are presently interested in recruiting immediately for fellowships starting within the next year. The deadline for this application round is January 31st, but we still encourage you to contact us if you would like to be considered for a later appointment.

To find out more about us and apply, please go to https://science-corps.org

Upcoming NIH OITE Events

January 6, 2021 by Rebecca Lopez

Upcoming Webinars with NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE) - BGS Career Development

The NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) has three upcoming events:

Wellness and Setting our intentions for 2021
January 11, 2021 from 1:00 – 3:15 PM EST

Register here: https://www.training.nih.gov/sas/_20/1994/
The OITE will hold our monthly webinar and small group discussion promoting mental health and well-being for scientists. The topic this month is Wellness and Setting our intentions for 2021. We will provide a broad definition of wellness, discuss strategies for dealing with obstacles that get in our way and explore a bit about mindfulness. Wellness is so much more than the absence of disease and to do our best work, we really do need to develop our wellness and resilience practices. The culture of science is slowly changing to acknowledge, and even embrace, concepts of stress management, resilience and wellness. This webinar is open to NIHers and folks outside the NIH, including students, fellows, staff and faculty. Coming in February – dealing with anxiety and perfectionism; for info about up-coming webinars visit https://www.training.nih.gov/new_seminar_series_mental_health_and_well-being#Schedule
