BGS Professional Skills Series

This year’s BGS Professional Skills Series will conclude with, ‘Science & International Diplomacy’, presented by Dr. Mahlet Mesfin, Deputy Director of the Center for Science Diplomacy at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), on Thursday, May 16th, 4:00 – 5:30 PM in the Barchi Library (140 John Morgan). This event is co-sponsored by the Penn Science Policy and Diplomacy Group (PSPDG).

Dr. Mesfin will speak to the intersections of science, policy, and society. An alum of Penn (SEAS PhD ’11), Mesfin joined AAAS in May 2017.  She also serves as executive editor of the open-access policy journal Science & Diplomacy. Read more on her background here.

The NIH Career Symposium highlights the diversity of career choices available to your generation of biomedical researchers.  Whether you are a new graduate student, postdoc, or clinical fellow just beginning to consider career options or a senior student/fellow ready to look for a job, the NIH Career Symposium is for you. NIH invites any postdoc, clinical fellow or PhD-level graduate student to join, regardless if you are part of the NIH intramural program or not. This event is free to attend (participants are responsible for their own travel expenses)

Call for Volunteers! Outreach Event: PGWISE at Clark Park

Penn Graduate Women in Science and Engineering

PGWISE will be hosting a booth at Science in the Park during the upcoming Philadelphia Science Carnival! Their booth will teach students about the microbiome with interactive activities.  Volunteers can stay for as little as an hour or all afternoon! This event will be held on Saturday, April 27th from noon-4pm.

Grad Center at Penn presents, “From PhD to Admin: Career Diversity for PhDs”

“Are you interested in supporting the mission and goals of academia, but not sure that a faculty position is the right path for you? Come explore how you can leverage your PhD to continue to support the university in a different capacity.

Hear from our diverse panel of experts, drawn from administrative offices and centers all around Penn, on how & why they decided to pursue a career in university administration after completing their own PhDs. Find out what that path looked like for them, and what steps you can take to move in that direction yourself. Brief introductions by the panelists will be followed by an audience Q&A, with time to chat freely with our experts over catered snacks at the end.” (Via the Grad Center at Penn)

SACNAS Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting 2019

On Monday, June 10th 2019, the Penn SACNAS Chapter will host a day-long event of professional development workshops, as well as talks, poster presentations, and community building open to STEM undergraduate student, graduate student, postdoctoral, and faculty members. Their goal is to celebrate the power of diversity in STEM.

SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT:
Prizes will be given to top three Best Poster winners: 1st place: $250 gift card, 2nd place: $150 gift card, 3rd place: $75 gift card, sponsored by Mahoney Institute for Neurosciences (MINS).
