Carisma Therapeutics – Several Positions
Carisma Therapeutics is a Penn spinout from the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies developing CAR monocyte and macrophage cell therapies for cancer. Carisma recently entered into an R&D partnership with Moderna to reprogram myeloid cells into CAR-M directly within patients using LNP/mRNA technology. Carisma has numerous openings that the BGS community may be interested in, including research associate, associate scientist, scientist, senior scientist, and principal scientist levels. Assistant Teaching Professor and Undergraduate Program Coordinator

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor and Academic Advisor. This is a non-tenure-line, faculty position on a 48-week academic year appointment with 100% teaching responsibilities. This is a limited-term multi-year (3 year) contract with the excellent opportunity and expectation for continued renewal.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching several introductory undergraduate courses (VBSC 50S- Mechanisms of Disease, VBSC 403- Principles of Animal Disease Control, a VBSC writing across the curriculum course) and others as assigned. Additional responsibilities will include serving as the undergraduate program coordinator for the Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences major along with primary engagement in undergraduate student orientation, recruitment, and retention programs in the college. The successful candidate will collaborate with the college recruitment director to develop recruitment materials and participate in recruitment events and activities as well as outreach programs to guidance counselors, high school instructors, etc., to identify prospective students. This position will also actively participate in college programming and support of students enrolled in commonwealth campuses as well as participate in the department’s alumni and industry outreach program.
Qualifications: Qualifications include a Ph.D. and/or V.M.D./D.V.M. in a biomedical discipline and a strong record of teaching scholarship including demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, excellent writing and oral communication skills, and data base management fluency. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to work cooperatively as well as engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university is required.

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor and Academic Advisor. This is a non-tenure-line, faculty position on a 36-week academic year appointment with 90% teaching 10% research responsibilities in a limited-term multi-year (3 year) contract with the opportunity and expectation for continued renewal based on satisfactory performance.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching several undergraduate courses, VBSC 50S- Mechanisms of Disease, VBSC 211- the Immune System and Disease, VBSC 418- Bacterial Pathogenesis, VBSC 445- Molecular Epidemiology of Infectious Disease, VBSC 488W- Current Topics in Immunology and others as assigned. Additionally, the candidate will actively engage in undergraduate orientation, recruitment, and retention programs in the college. Other responsibilities will include specific academic advising and career counseling to students considering or actively enrolled in the Immunology and Infectious Disease (IID) major with a focus on graduate school and professional careers in clinical medicine and industry. The successful candidate will also assist the Immunology and Infectious Disease undergraduate program coordinator with recruitment events and activities, and outreach to identify prospective students. This position will participate in college programming and support of students enrolled in commonwealth campuses. The successful candidate is encouraged to carry out research in their discipline area in collaboration with other faculty.
Qualifications: Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, or related fields and at least three years of teaching experience in a classroom setting. Advising experience would be an added plus. The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to work cooperatively among a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, industry, and agency groups is essential in our department and University.
