Duke University Logo - J. Mack Robinson College of Business

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Applied Therapeutics Center (Department of Surgery) at Duke University, Durham, NC.  This fellow will work with Drs. Zachary Hartman and Erika Crosby to explore the fast-developing and highly interdisciplinary fields of oncology and immunobiology with an emphasis towards immunotherapeutic strategies to treat different types of breast cancer.  This emerging field has recently seen the clinical development and approval of multiple checkpoint inhibitors and industry interest, which should yield experience for the candidate applicable to a career in academic medicine or biomedical pharmaceutical research. We are interested in a fellow to explore combinations of different immunotherapeutic strategies with targeted therapies in a variety of breast cancer models.  As our group is in collaboration with multiple industry and academic partners, we are seeking an applicant with excellent communication skills to serve as a member of an interactive team.

Training/Experience:  Strong English communication and interpersonal skills are required as the candidate will need to be able to work with many collaborators in a multi-disciplinary team environment.  Experience and proficiency with cloning design and execution, in vitro assays, in vivo mouse models, as well as versatile cellular and molecular biology techniques (quantitative RT-PCR, flow cytometry, western blotting, ELISA, immunological techniques, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, recombinant DNA cloning, and luciferase reporter analyses) are preferred.  Additional skills utilizing high-throughput shRNA screening, next-generation sequencing, or modelling in vivo tumor environments are highly valued.  Proven ability to learn and pioneer new techniques and assay systems will be equally valued to past familiarity with any particular techniques.  We are looking for a passionate, hard-working, and self-motivated individual that is able to work on a multidisciplinary project and wishes to pursue a career in translational cancer research.

Education: Candidate must have recently graduated (within three years) with a Ph.D. and/or M.D./Ph.D. degree in Immunology, Cancer Biology, or related field.
