Weekly office hours will be hosted
    Where: BlueJeans
  • 6 lectures on data analysis using python
    When: Tuesdays, July 7th – August 11th, 3:30PM – 5:00PM
    Where: BlueJeans

This Python Data Science Bootcamp is a free workshop designed to help scientists in the biological and biomedical sciences gain basic Python skills required for applications in data science. No prior programming experience is required. Using Python, we will cover the core programming concepts needed to perform basic data analysis, with an emphasis on common problems in biology. By the end, we hope you will feel comfortable using Python to analyze your own data!

The course will begin with an optional semi-supervised completion of a Python course on CodeAcademy designed to get students comfortable with the basics of python at their own pace. Students completing this portion will be assisted via online office hours where they can receive help from GCB students. While completing the CodeAcademy course is strongly encouraged, if you feel confident in your basic Python abilities and are more interested in the applied lectures, this is not strictly required.

The CodeAcademy portion will be followed by 6 weekly lectures by our TAs on using Python to perform common data science tasks. Lectures will be accompanied by programming exercises. There will also be an active online Q&A forum where you can get help throughout the classes.

Note that if you have to miss a class or are not able to attend at all, lectures will be posted, and you can still participate with the Q&A forum.

CPRIT TRIUMPH Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

May 18, 2020 by Rebecca Lopez

New Logo Features Strike Through Cancer | MD Anderson Cancer Center

First or second year post-docs and graduate students who are within 12 months of defending their PhD are highly encouraged to apply to MD Anderson Cancer Center’s CPRIT TRIUMPH Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.

Program Description:

The Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) TRIUMPH Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center is a post-doctoral program providing unique training in clinical and translational research. The immediate goal of our program is to recruit talented and productive PhDs and train them to pursue clinical and/or translational research through didactic coursework as well as clinical rotations and a unique mentorship. A long-term goal of this program is to produce scientists who can be paired with suitable physician scientists to co-PI a research laboratory.

The CPRIT TRIUMPH Program is a three-year training program. The first year, postdoctoral fellows participate in a series of didactic clinical course work offered at the MD Anderson UTHealth Graduate School (GSBS), MD Anderson Cancer Center, or the UTHealth McGovern School of Medicine and strategically matched clinical rotations, while pursuing research in a basic or translational research laboratory. Second and third year fellows are co-mentored by a basic science/translational scientist mentor and a physician/clinical scientist mentor on clinical/translational research projects. The expectation for our post-docs is that by the end of their 3-year training, they will have first authored manuscripts high impact journals. Our multidisciplinary training program will award a certificate upon completion.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is currently accepting applications for the CPRIT TRIUMPH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Translational Cancer Research. This three-year fellowship provides basic, translational, and clinical training and aims to further develop talented PhD or MD/PhDs into successful clinical/translational research scientists. Applications are reviewed quarterly with the next cycle due dates of June 30, 2020 and September 30, 2020. Additional information regarding eligibility, application process, and current trainees and program alumni profiles are found at www.mdanderson.org/CPRITTRIUMPH. Please contact Dr. Kari Brewer Savannah, Program Manager, with any questions at ksavannah@mdanderson.org.
