Postdoc Position – Francis Crick Institute

August 31, 2020 by Rebecca Lopez Leave a Comment

The Branding Source: New logo: The Francis Crick Institute

Job title: Postdoctoral Training Fellow
Location: The Francis Crick Institute, Midland Road, London
Closing date: End of September 2020

The Project

This is an exciting opportunity to join the p53 and metabolism group to expand our studies aimed at understanding cancer cell metabolism, with a view to harnessing this knowledge in the design of novel therapeutic approaches. The laboratory is focused on two interrelated questions; how does nutrient availability/metabolism and ROS regulation impact cancer initiation and progression and how do metabolic and survival functions of wild type and mutant p53 control tumour development? Our goal is to understand the mechanistic biology underlying these phenomena and thereby reveal novel vulnerabilities and therapeutic approaches. This project will continue to build on our work identifying cancer-specific metabolic changes and how these could be exploited for cancer treatment. The successful applicant will use a wide range of techniques, including metabolomics, cell biology and in vivo studies. We are looking for a dedicated, ambitious and collaborative scientist who can work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in metabolism and a PhD in a relevant area are required.

For more information please visit our lab webpage at https://www.crick.ac.uk/research/labs/karen-vousden

To make informal enquiries and for more information please contact Karen Vousden at karen.vousden@crick.ac.uk

To apply for the position please go to https://jobs.crick.ac.uk

The Group

You will join a highly interactive group of postdocs, clinical and non-clinical PhD students and research scientists with expertise in various aspects of cancer metabolism, cancer immunology and the biology of the p53 tumour suppressor protein. You will be given the opportunity to develop your own project, with strong support from your laboratory colleagues. The direction of research will be guided by your own interests and ambitions. The Francis Crick Institute will give you unprecedented opportunities to develop skills and expertise, as well as interactions with an outstanding faculty of life scientists.

About The Crick

The Francis Crick Institute is a biomedical discovery institute dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and disease. Its work is helping to understand why disease develops and to translate discoveries into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.

An independent organisation, its founding partners are the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK, Wellcome, UCL (University College London), Imperial College London and King’s College London.

The Crick occupies a new state-of-the-art building in central London, which brings together 1500 scientists and support staff working collaboratively across disciplines, making it the biggest biomedical research facility in one building in Europe.

Our distinctive vision for excellence includes commitments to collaboration; developing emerging talent and exporting it the rest of the UK; public engagement; and helping turn discoveries into treatments as quickly as possible to improve lives and strengthen the economy.
