Penn Career Services: Develop Coping Strategies for Internship/Job-Search Stress

This Career Services workshop will provide students with the space to examine their existing coping strategies when it comes to internship and job-search stress, as well as to learn new ways to manage stress. The core career-readiness competency addressed in this workshop is: Self-Management & Personal Wellness (SMPW).

IHE: Building an Endpoint to Your Faculty Job Search

This Inside Higher Ed article addresses a tricky topic for graduate students and postdocs searching for a faculty position – determining how much time to dedicate to the search. Of course, temporary positions such as adjunct teaching or visiting professorships are valuable opportunities in their own right and can serve as stepping stones on the track to a faculty position. At the same time, the article suggests, setting a clear limit on these temporary positions is one way to remain open to other career possibilities.

Inside Higher Ed: A Road Map for Successful Career Exploration

A program funded by an NIH Broadening Experiences in Scientific Training (BEST) award at the University of California, San Francisco has developed a useful career development tool – the Career Exploration Road Map. This Inside Higher Ed article highlights some of its features.

The map is intended to be revisited throughout career exploration, in recognition that the processes of practicing self-assessment, investigating careers, and implementing change are each highly iterative. The map is complemented by a YouTube video titled, “The Fantasy, The Ideal, and The Reality of Career Exploration.”
