Industry Scientist Opportunities for Recent Graduates

Aro Biotherapeutics Announces $88 Million Series A Financing to Advance Development of Centyrin-Targeted Genetic Medicines | Business Wire

About Aro BioTx

Join the team at Aro Biotherapeutics creating breakthrough biotherapeutics based on Centyrin oligonucleotide conjugates.  Centyrins are small protein domains based on the fibronectin domains of human Tenascin C that combine the affinity and specificity properties of antibodies with the stability and tissue penetration properties of small molecules.  We have engineered Centyrins with an array of specificities for normal and immune cell receptors.  By linking Centyrin domains together genetically, we have created multi-specific binders that retain a small footprint to enable excellent tissue penetration.  Engineered for high stability, multi-specific Centyrins are readily expressed and purified from E. coli or mammalian cells.

Aro BioTx has two open positions; see the online applications here:

  • Investigator, In Vivo Biology
  • Investigator, Genetics & Bioinformatics

You can also read the position descriptions here.

FitzGerald Lab Opportunities – Graduate Students & Postdocs

February 19, 2021 by Rebecca Lopez

The FitzGerald lab has opportunities in its two areas of interest – bioactive lipids and the molecular clock.

In the first, current projects are focused on defining the role of eicosanoids and other bioactive lipids in cardiopulmonary disease, pain, the response to checkpoint blockade in cancer, aging and in viral infections, such as in COVID-19.

Our work on molecular clocks includes the integration of multi-omics and remote sensing data to define the human chronobiome in aging and in time dependent disease phenotypes such as non-dipping hypertension and asthma. We are also interested in the mechanisms which underlie sexual dimorphism in chronobiology and in using mass spec imaging and single cell biology to study circadian phenotypes in mice.

Overall, we are a group of around 30 from varied backgrounds including clinical medicine, informatics, mass spectrometry, genetics, metabolism, molecular and cell biology. A driving feature of our research is to integrate studies in model systems – mice, zebrafish, organoids, iPSC cells – with the deep and perturbed phenotyping possible in experimental medicine at the Center for Human Phenomic Science and the capacity to address hypotheses at scale using resources such as the Penn Medicine and UK Biobanks.

Scientist, Analytical Development
Online Job Application

Seres Therapeutics is well-positioned to become the first company to bring an approved microbiome drug to patients through our proprietary discovery and design platform.  We identify key alterations in the microbiome that are associated with specific diseases and are designing live bacterial ecologies to act as therapeutics in areas as diverse as infectious and inflammatory disease, immune regulation, and immuno-oncology.

The Scientist, Analytical Development will work closely with our Analytical Development, Quality Control, and Research & Development teams in the development of microbial and molecular assays to ensure safe and effective bacterial therapeutics for the patients who need them.  This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative scientist who can apply their expertise to the unique challenges faced when characterizing and releasing therapeutics comprised of communities of bacteria.

What’s in it for you?

This is an opportunity to have a significant impact on the development of a novel class of therapeutics for various disease areas while learning about the exciting science of the microbiome and its impact on human health and disease.

How do you know if you’re the right fit?

This is an incredible opportunity for someone who will get excited about developing assays that are robust and capable of supporting key decisions to move our programs forward.  If you are flexible and driven, have worked in a fast-paced organization, and enjoy the challenge of forging a path forward in a new field, you would find this novel opportunity very engaging.

In order to develop the sorts of assays Seres needs, you should be a PhD-level scientist, or equivalent, with significant assay development experience in the area of molecular biology and/or microbiology.   You should have an excellent attitude with an infectious excitement around learning and teaching your craft.   Experience with assay qualification or validation is a plus. Other desirable skills include sequencing, qPCR/dPCR, probe-based hybridization assays, LC-MS, IC, and automated liquid handlers.

Opportunity at SUNY for those interested in a career at a PUI

February 15, 2021 by Rebecca Lopez

Last year, the SUNY system started a major initiative to diversify the faculty on their campuses called PRODIG (Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth). Part of this program is a fellowship program for those who are interested in teaching at a comprehensive college (aka, primarily undergraduate institution, or PUI).

The program is open to post-docs or those who have just completed or are finishing up their graduate degrees, who meet the eligibility criteria (underrepresented minority or WSTEM, must also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident). It is a good deal for those who want/need to gain teaching experience and get a leg up on starting their academic career.

Some of the benefits include a two-year contract, a greatly reduced teaching load, professional development opportunities, mentoring, a stipend for summer research, and a moving allowance. PRODIG Fellows also get early notification regarding permanent tenure track positions in their discipline that become available within the consortium. Applicants would apply to the program and state preferences for which campuses they prefer, but they could receive an offer from any of the campuses.

Those who are interested can find more information and application instructions at the State University of New York PRODIG Fellowship website and SUNY Oneonta’s PRODIG Fellowship website.

Please reach out to BGS alumna (Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, 2002) Kelly Gallagher, PhD with any questions:
